The Audubon Zoo and Aquarium are excellent places to check out with a variety of different animals and species. Please keep in mind both of these places have two different locations, the zoo is located near Audubon Park and Tulane University and the aquarium is located near the French quarter 6 miles away (a 20 minute drive).

Audubon Aquarium of the Americas

1 Canal St, New Orleans, LA 70130

Open Daily (Except for Tuesday and Wednesday)

They had paddleboard fish (which I have never even heard of before), sea turtles, lion fish, and sharks. They had a white alligator here which are extremely rare (they say there are only 20 in the world!).

Unrelated to the animals here but they had a Papa Johns at the aquarium and that’s my all time favorite pizza place.

Audubon Zoo

6500 Magazine St, New Orleans, LA 70118

Open Daily (Except for Monday and Tuesday)

Lions, tigers, and bears, oh my! (Sorry – the pun was too easy). This zoo truly has it all: giraffes, gorillas, elephants, tigers, reptiles, bears, seals, and so on.

Make sure to grab some ice cream at their Haagen-Dazs stand. I got mint chocolate (my fave!)

My favorite thing about the zoo is they had my favorite reptile the Komodo dragon! They are 10 feet long, weigh 300 pounds, and are the largest lizards in the world. Komodo dragons will consider almost anything to be their prey – including themselves.
