Ernest Hemingway’s House (“The Hemingway Home and Museum”) is located at 907 Whitehead St., in the Key West Historic District. If you are arriving to Key West via cruise ship, the museum is a twenty minute walk or a five minute drive from the cruise port. The museum is open daily!

Please keep in mind the facility only accepts cash (no debit cards or credit cards).

There are 30 minute guided tours scheduled throughout the day that is included in your general admission ticket. You can choose to tour the grounds at your own pace in addition to participate in the guided tour. My favorite thing about how the museum operates is the flexibility. You are free to start your guided tour at any time during your stay and explore inside and outside the home at your leisure.

My favorite thing about touring Hemingway’s property was not even the house or even his unique studio, it was exploring his one-acre-property! You can see the beautiful open backyard he has, along with plants surrounding every corner making it seem like you are in a tropical paradise.

The property is just under acre and at the time of my visit in May 2022, the property homes 58 cats! The cats roam throughout the property and are treated like royalty. You are welcome to pet the cats!

Honorable mention: Stop at Captain Tony’s Saloon (previously known as “Slopping Joes”) where Ernest Hemingway spent his nights while in Key West. The bar is located near the cruise port and aquarium. Ernest Hemingway during a drunken night, stole the bar’s urinal and placed it outside of his home. His wife at the time added a vase to make it a fountain.
