In this article by “non tech” I mean not relating to phones, cameras, tablets, etc. There are some products on the list that require it to be plugged into an outlet or plugged into a tech device.

  • A heating pad – I am convinced I’m a reptile. I’m constantly cold and nothing is more soothing than my heating pad. I bought this heating pad from Amazon 2 years ago and only recently did it stop working. I use it everyday and without it, I would be freezing all the time. It’s large and has a cover on it to make it just like an electric blanket. It’s so comforting after a day of traveling to cuddle up with my heating pad.
  • Surgical face mask to prevent from being sick. Yes you may look crazy but take that over getting sick. These black ones from Amazon look so sheek. I saw Bella Hadid wearing a black face mask while in Tokyo and I just thought “iconic”. While a face mask is more effective if you are the one who is actually sick, it gives me the peace of mind knowing no one’s fluids of sneezing and coughing is going to reach my nose/mouth area.
  • One thing I carry around with me at all times is Aquaphor. If you told me “Would you rather live without your phone or Aquaphor?” I would gladly live without my phone. Once I started using Aquaphor a few years ago (I went on accutane twice so my body was super dry), I haven’t been able to go back to ANY other lip balm or chapstick. All other lipblam and chap sticks feels like it’s just laying on my lips, compared to Aquaphor, it feels like it seeps down into every lip pore that I have. I do not take this lightly when I say I love Aquaphor. I constantly have to have MULTIPLE Aquaphors in my bag. If I could write love letters to Aquaphor, I would.
  • Clorox Wipes. Housekeepers, cruise cabin stewards, and flight crew may be able to do some light cleaning up however, if you are afraid of some major DNA surfacing places like the doorknobs, desks, arm rests, and so on. There is no shame is doing a quick wipe down.
  • Silicone ear plugs. I have misophonia. There are certain noises that make me cringe and want to die. Blasting your headphones can get annoying after an hour or so and also can be ineffective depending on the noises you are trying to block out. I am a huge advodate for silicone ear plugs. They are sticky and get dirty but no other ear plugs as effective. I loathe foam ear plugs because it doesn’t feel like any sound is being blocked out. With Silicone ear plugs, you use it to cover your ear instead of stuffing foam ear plugs in your ear canal. I have gotten three friends so far hooked on these ear plugs and I also use these on a daily basis. You deserve a piece of mind. I don’t want to hear people breathing, chewing, squeezing their water bottle every time they take a sip, their plastic snacks and wrappers…hearing these slight sounds is much more painful than hearing a baby scream.
  • Headphones (any brand) are the best option if you want to wear your ear plugs and listen to something to drown out the noise. Earphones obviously don’t work if you have ear plugs on because they don’t cover your entire ears. Headphones are particuarly useful if you want to watch movies on the plane. If you have an iPhone, you’ll want to consider getting an adapter.
