I went on the Matthew Hussey Retreat in May 2019, the tenth year anniversary of the retreat. The retreat took place in Fort Lauderdale at Marriott Harbor Beach Resort and Spa, which was right by the ocean. At check in, we were given a welcome box which included our lanyard, a tote bag, and journal.

The room and the view from the balcony

Without taking from someone else’s “aha” moment or spoiling the material from the retreat, I am going to lightly mention what I took from the retreat. The Matthew Hussey Retreat has really got me thinking about what I want in my life and what rituals I have to implement in my life to make my vision possible. I want to live a life I am proud of and my own feelings (my “elephant” as they say in the retreat) have been getting in my way of my vision. I am not driven by logic, I am driven by EMOTION. I am slowly figuring out what will trigger me to get that emotion of inspiration, motivation, and the high vibration I need to feel to get sh** done. I am naturally TERRIBLE at this. I procrastinate to such a heavy degree I can get nothing done or very little in a huge chunk of time. My focus is with the wrong “elephant”. My focus needs to be on the positive emotions of knowing I am making something of myself and accomplishing something.

I opted for a roommate during the retreat and I am so, so glad I did. It made the whole experience worth while and special. Without my roommate Melody, I would have been much more reserved with the submersion of the retreat and especially the events.

Jameson and I at the luau. The brain behind all of Matthew’s video content!

I was very surprised by the “under promise and over deliver” mentality the retreat has. There were several unexpected things that happened throughout the week that made it so special. There was such a high level of care for this retreat just from an event standpoint. All of the events were over the top theatrical.

My team leader, Gillian

All of the retreat staff were so kind and everyone was given a team leader to assist us with questions and to talk to before each day of the retreat. On day 0, at the meet and greet, Gillian immediately showed me so much warmth and made me feel very comfortable. She even reached out to me privately to make sure I was doing well. I also spoke with Dana right away during the retreat and she showed me it’s okay I may be more introverted than others (during parties) and had the sense of humor to have a unusual, off beat conversation.

I hope to update this post in the next few months with how I applied the retreat to my life. 🙂
