Santa Catalina Island is an hour away from Southern California’s coast. You get there via the Catalina Express with several departure times from San Pedro, Long Beach and Dana Point. You can also get there via cruise ship. Below is the map directly from Catalina Express’ website of where Catalina Island is located. They have two ports: Two Harbors and Avalon. Avalon is the more touristy part of the island. This post is going to be about Avalon and things you can do near the cruise port.

Catalina is the cutest island and Avalon reminds me of Disneyland because of how all of their shops are close together and it feels very homey.

Tour the largest landmark at Catalina

The biggest landmark in Catalina is Catalina Casino. It opened in 1929 and it has a ballroom and movie theater. While the movie theater is no longer in use, they do open for special events. When I went to Catalina, the casino was not open to the public but you could book a tour.

Explore Catalina Island via golf cart or bike.

You can rent a golf cart for as little as $100 for 2 hours. Keep in mind you have to be 25 years or older to rent a golf cart. If I was old enough at the time of going to Catalina, I would have rented a golf cart. They look so much fun. Click here for information about renting a golf cart.

If you want a more active option, I recommend to rent a bike. Brown Bikes’ offers regular bikes, tandem bikes, and electric bikes. The full day rental is only $25 and you just have to be 18 years old (or have an adult with you) to rent out a bike.

Where To Eat

Lloyd’s of Avalon

I LOVE sweets. Stopping at Lloyd’s was a must.. They have ice cream and all kind of candy. I had their mint chocolate chip ice cream and their chocolate covered oreos. Disclaimer: I have a huge sweet tooth so I am very biased to say this was my favorite place to check out!

The Lobster Trap

I had their lobster roll and their clam chowder. I love seafood! They have the BEST clam chowder I have EVER tasted! I highly recommend.

Catalina Coffee & Co

Have a coffee and a cinnamon roll at Catalina Coffee & Co. They are known for their cinnamon rolls!

Bonus points if you find cute doggies!
