Downtown Las Vegas is about 2 miles away from the Las Vegas Strip, starting at The Stratosphere Hotel (The STRAT). It is also known as “Fremont” or
Where To Stay: There are several hotels to stay at but my personal favorites are The D Hotel and The Golden Nugget. The Golden Nugget has a $30 million award winning pool!
Where To Eat: If you like Thai food, go to Le Thai. If you are in the mood for a gastropub or English food, go to The Smashed Pig. For American food, go to Park on Fremont.
An honorary mention while we are talking about food and Downtown Las Vegas, The Heart Attack Grill, all guests must wear a hospital gown over their clothes, it is a pro-obesity restaurant (I’m not joking), and if you weigh 350 pounds or more, you get to eat for free. I don’t eat red meat so this isn’t a place I would personally eat at, however, it’s unique, gag experience.
What To Do: Fremont is the place to go when you want to walk around and experience people. Many locals, including myself, flock to Fremont Street during holidays like Halloween and Saint Patrick’s Day.
It’s a fabulous place to go to people watch, bar hop, listen to music, and have fun for a good price.
View the Viva Vision Light Show.
It is a free, public light show “in the sky”. Viva Vision is the second largest video screen in the world, and largest screen in the country. The photo taken below was taken on Halloween and only shows part of the screen.
